The heat value is indicated in the type code/description of the spark plug as a number. Unfortunately, there is a different number allocation for every manufacturer. As an example, a 3 Bosch spark plug may have a 9 heat value from NGK. But for almost every vehicle, the manufacturer lists the most commonly used alternative spark plugs in the vehicle handbook.

As a rough rule of thumb: A hot value means that the spark plug has been subject to even larger temperatures and has a better cleaning effect, but the engine is also exposed to the risk of overheating and there is a risk of piston jamming. The site extreme would be a "colder" value in which the spark plug only hesitantly reaches the operating temperature.
