Review
------
Proving there's an awful lot you can still get out of the Game
Boy Color, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone packs its
cartridge with a full and varied gaming experience that will no
doubt be enjoyed by its young following.
The game's story follows the plot of the film and book closely,
and the gameplay isn't too original. Certainly we've seen
overhead exploration, card collecting, and turn-based combat many
times before, and arguably it's been done better (Pokémon (
/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005LBHM/${0} ), anyone?). But though this
game has its share of tedious moments, overall gameplay is both
enjoyable and extensive.
Graphically, the developers have done a fine job, with
recognizable characters and locations and fun rtunities for
character interaction. The puzzles aren't particularly taxing,
which will further endear the game to the less experienced
player, although at the risk of tedium for others.
This is a good movie tie-in, one that stretches the Game Boy
Color's capabilities to the limit and delivers a good gaming
value. It might not blow anyone away, but it's likely to provide
ample entertainment for its target audience. --Simon Brew --
