About the item

This is a truly innovative and new type of Okinawan sanshin with a length of 52cm: about two thirds the size of a standard sanshin and almost the same size as a soprano ukulele. The finger positions remains the same (the distances between positions are shorter though), which allows you to play the instrument just as easily as you play the standard sanshin. The sanshin can be tuned up to one octave higher CFC than a standard sanshin; it can be enjoyed as a soprano sanshin, and it's often chosen as a second sanshi n. Small in size, Minimum Sanshin is a perfect choice for kids as well as for female players looking to sing and play the sanshin at the same pitch. As a soprano sanshin, it makes a great sound combination when played with the standard sanshin and a variety of other instruments, too. The frame and back side of the body are made with wood, and it's covered with artificial skin. You can choose the design of your Minimum Sanshin from a wide range of options, including traditional Okinawan designs, the cute Hello Kitty and more. The sanshin is equipped with beachwood karakui and a special itokake made with the same wood material as the body, but any conventional itokake works just as well (Conventional karakui could be used, but they are too large for Minimum Sanshin and may give a feeling of imbalance. Small-sized beachwood karakui are available for purchase). Unlike the standard sanshin, Minimum Sanshin does not require doumaki.
